alden had an awesome day on thursday, first hanging out with some buddies at the Y and then relaxing in the park with kathryn and her new puppy, jason. it was a Beautiful Day and we were so glad to make the most of it. unfortunately for little bunny, making the most of it means refusing to eat, so papa and i endured three separate wailing sessions later on. alas.

today bunny was crabby in the morning, but after a good nap and some satisfactory feedings, we braved the overcast chill and headed into manhattan. our plan was to meet papa in union square when he got off from work around 5, eat some dinner and head over to chelsea for the gallery openings. well. so first! first bun and i headed to soho to check out makie. one of our new buddies in the mama group had some lovely booties for her babe and said they were from sweet william. well, turns out sweet william was out of alden's size, but i saw that they were made by makie and not too pricey. so! we bought the grey ones. they're perfect for wearing in the moby or ergo, when his tiny footers are all a-danglin' in the weather. and they stay on! awesome. there was an adorable matching hat (and mittens!) but we're not in dire need of hats and this makie stuff don't come cheap. alas. it is all SO CUTE.

anyway, so then we walked over to clementine, which another mama friend told us about and lo! we hit the jackpot. last night when i was looking up makie's address, i saw these:

and fell in love. but, as i mentioned before, the prices over there are as-yet unattainable for the likes of us. HOWEVER, what should i find on the baby boys' rack at clementine? no, seriously, guess. YES! the mushroom pants! it's like it was meant to be or something. so though i was there looking for socks and sweaters, we left instead with mushroom pants (at one third the retail price) and a bu and the duck stripey t shirt and some green baby legs. hooray!

i'm just waiting for someone to ask if i'm the nanny because this kid is WAY better dressed than i am at the moment.

oh, right. so then we walked up to union square, after i managed to navigate my way out of washington square park, which for some reason is my own personal bermuda triangle. we stopped for a cup of coffee at whole foods (worst cup of coffee ever. two sips and i tossed it) and i tried to nurse the bun. he was not interested in the least, so we headed over to barnes and noble. we read lyle, lyle crocodile and i tried once again, unsuccessfully to feed mr. alden. sigh. by the time ian came to meet us, he was in meltdown mode. we managed to eat some dinner and i tried ONE MORE TIME, but alden wanted nothing more to do with manhattan. chelsea will have to wait.

  1. boy, i was just going to say how lucky you are that alden stays out past 5pm, and then i read the rest of your post. some day i will be able to go on walks after dinner, i hope.

alas for us, leon's makie booties no longer fit. i bought them on sale from the store for $9!! i am so jealous that you have clementine, our baby consignment shops have tons of target and walmart wear. foo.

sounds like alden is entering the 'distracted' phase. i'm not sure leon is ever going to leave it! i've been teaching him the sign for nursing, and he uses it whenever he's tired, because that's the only time he's willing to eat! thank god he can eat solids, now, otherwise the poor guy would be even thinner than he is.

and yeah, washington square park is the devil. i've yet to navigate it properly.
