poor baby.
alden's been a snuffly mess all weekend.
we thought for sure he had an ear infection because he was tugging at his let ear and wincing and woke up crying several times last night, but a visit to the doctor today disproved our theory. guess it's just pressure from the cold. bunny! poor little bunny.
he's been sleeping for two and a half hours now, which is not a normal nap for him. hopefully this doesn't mean he'll be up all night. i'm tempted to wake him, but waking sleeping babies is a Very Bad Idea and i already shook him out of his extended sleep this morning. he slept until noon! who knows how long he would have gone if i hadn't gotten him up for his appointment. i know i should be enjoying this quiet time, but i can't help worrying. and the doctor telling me i shouldn't have given him infant motrin (which is what the nurses in the nicu told me to use) and should always use tylenol instead doesn't help.
i thought since she had such strong opinions about pain relief, she might be able to just tell me what to do regarding vaccinations, but she was no more helpful than his regular doc (who was booked today), saying that their policy was not to push parents one way or the other. that's very nice. but i'd like a little more guidance and reassurance than that. i mentioned that his regular doctor mentioned pentacel, but that i couldn't find much info on it and she said, yes, there isn't much. not helpful! at this rate he's going to go unvaccinated not because we're against them, but because we can't figure out which and when. sheesh.
hopefully all of this extra sleeping means he'll be all better tomorrow and we can go visit with the mama group. we ran into one of the mamas in union square today and realized how much we've been missing the meet ups since we've been away and now ill.

poor leon is getting two teeth in and his nose is so runny. i can't tell if he's sick with a cold or if it's teething-related. no fever, and the runny nose is clear, so there isn't an infection as of yet. i'm going to keep an eye out for a possible ear infection. he often tugs on his ears, but that's usually a sign of tiredness.
ReplyDeleteare you referring to regular vaccinations or the flu ones? our office won't treat leon unless he gets his vaccinations. we're going with a modified schedule. he also had his seasonal flu shot a few weeks ago.
leon is not even 18lbs, but i'm quickly learning that this is less common for an 8 month old. alden looks deliciously chubby to me.
poor little guy! It's so stressful when different doctors give different kind of advice, and sometimes none of it seems to match up. It makes you wish that there was a clear and easy way to do things. I'm sure you both will make the right decisions and he'll be back and moving about in no time. Hope you had a nice trip !!

ReplyDeleteerika, i was referring to regular vaccines. they don't even give the flu shot to babies under 6 months, apparently. it's kind of crazy that your pediatrician won't treat unvaccinated children! they must make exceptions...what about babies who had bad reactions the first round and can't get any more?
